Shopping for the Win
The annual Walmart Associate and Shareholders Meeting is a one-of-a-kind show in the corporate world. Combining elements of a Grammy Award-level spectacular with general sessions, it is an enormous opportunity to share future plans with thousands of Associates from around the world – as well as recognize and reward their dedication and enthusiasm for the company. In June, more than 14,000 Walmart associates gathered in Fayetteville, Arkansas for a week-long celebration – beginning with business unit meetings for U.S. Associates, International Associates, Sam’s Club Associates, Supply Chain Associates, followed by a concert night, and concluding with the Walmart Associate and Shareholders Meeting.
The 2019 event featured:
- An energetic opening number that not only allowed Associates to become a part of the show, but also let them announce the surprise guest host, actress Jennifer Garner
- Augmented reality to incorporate themes of change, innovation, and problem solving into President and CEO Doug McMillon’s keynote address
- A revolving stage, revealing acts by Lady Antebellum, Neon Trees, Bebe Rexha, Maren Morris, and One Republic
- 2019 BizBash Event Style Awards, Best Conference (more than 5,000 attendees) & Best Staging and Set Design
- 2019 Special Event Gala Award, Most Outstanding Spectacle
- 2019 EventMarketer Ex Award, Silver, Best Production of a B-to-B Event
- 2018 EventMarketer Experience Design & Technology Award, Silver, Best Stage Experience
- 2017 Special Event Gala Award Finalist, Most Outstanding Spectacle
Year Beginning Meeting
Kicking It Off Year After Year
In the first quarter of each year, Walmart holds its Year Beginning Meeting (YBM) to share company strategies, PR news releases, and marketing messaging with 7,000+ of their managers. It’s one thing to say you promote the idea of winning together, and quite another to actually show it. In the end, Walmart managers, presenters, executives, and LEO Events collaborate to execute a successful show by:
- Including custom-built stage sets every year to allow speakers to effectively engage the crowd through content and messaging
- Highlighting new merchandise through stage set and design to visually speak to the year’s sales plan
- Managing content and graphics, creating dynamic visuals to support executive messaging
- Utilizing an arena-style setting with a grand video setup, giving all attendees a great vantage point
Holiday Meeting
The Time Is Near for Some Cheer
Every fall, Walmart holds their annual Holiday Meeting to gear up for the 4th quarter, covering everything from Back to School to New Year’s Eve. It’s that time of year when just around the corner are crazy crowds and incredible sales – a huge deal for retail, an even bigger deal for Walmart. And if they want the holidays to go off without a hitch, their managers have to be up to speed on all the details about the upcoming sales season. So this meeting focuses on showcasing new merchandise and the roll-out plan for sales. LEO Events works alongside Walmart Event Solutions to ensure a very merry meeting by:
- Producing two general sessions for 7,000 invitees
- Managing the critical messaging for this multi-day event, along with the important details, including presentation sight lines, product visibility, and content clarity
- Developing overall creative, including meeting look and feel, content design, graphics, and staging
- Creating diverse, multi-functional stage sets that incorporate new merchandise
