Position Summary:

The Managing Show Director will design and produce a turn key conference with an assigned internal LEO Events team. This position will be responsible for generating revenue by creating strong relationships with potential clients and vendors to secure speakers, sponsors, marketing and attendees. We are looking for a creative and strategic event director that thrives on creating exceptional experiences that ignite connection and commerce.

The ideal Managing Show  Director will have an extensive background working as a brand ambassador manager, brand manager, or related experience and have trade show experience. LEO Events is looking for a friendly face that knows how to connect with people politically and strategically, no matter the product or message.  Position will be Memphis, TN based.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Set and manage the vision and strategic direction of the conference

• Manage the financial success of the conference to ensure profitability by determining fiscal requirements and executing a flawless budget by ensuring profitability including the ability to analyze budget, marketing, sales, and business plans

• Work closely with Content Team, Advisory Board and Sponsors to develop conference direction, topics, themes, and speaker candidates

• Develop and maintain strong industry relationships by traveling to attend key industry conferences, client meetings, networking functions, and site selection

• Identify trends, conduct industry research, brand extension, assess marketplace needs, and business development opportunities

• Leading a team and ensuring everyone is working together as one cohesive unit – marketing, content, operations, sales and sponsors

• Set and hold team accountable for key deadlines and financial milestones

• Becoming the key face of the brand to the market

• Solicit sponsorships as needed or find unique ways to manage fiduciary risk to partners with the show budget

• Work closely with internal and external event and trade show planning committees and client groups to define trade show goals, objectives, and specific implementation plans that promote the brand

 

Operations:

• Pre-event and onsite communication with delegates

• Establish staff schedules, task assignments, and equipment allocation to ensure conformance with department objectives and goals

• Represent and deliver service excellence that is in keeping with the brand

• Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations

• Negotiate agreements with outside providers and subcontractors to ensure lowest cost and highest quality of service

• Source venues, recommend and engage catering, acquire supporting technology and coordinate development of materials to execute a quality event/show

• Maintain a calendar of events and implement a system that enables and anticipates long-term planning and effective event or trade show management for the organization

• Work closely with program managers, committees and communications staff to effectively promote events and trade shows to target audiences and obtain accurate show specifications

• Work closely with the organizations communications staff on sponsorship arrangements and identify potential revenue streams

• Work closely with communications, administration and finance staff to oversee and facilitate event and trade show registration processes

• Oversee procurement purchasing and client service needs with regard to catering, audiovisual, security, and rental needs for events or trade shows

• Work with communications staff to develop brand, marketing labels, and tools as required

• Ensure speakers are briefed and prepared to provide effective presentations and materials

• Troubleshoot and smooth issues relating to the successful execution of the events program

• Work with communications staff to ensure that events receive optimal media coverage

• Provide post-event analysis, budget recaps, and participant feedback and incorporate learning into future plans

• Develop event and trade show reports and distribute as required to sponsors, participants, and others

• Represent LEO Events and deliver excellence

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Marketing, Communications or General Business preferred

• 10+ years of experience in Event management, ideally in an account/client environment

 

Competencies:

• Able to analyze budget, marketing, sales, and business plans

• Knowledge of all aspects of trade show and conference management and execution

• Strong project management skills, working independently

• Highly organized and effective time management skills

• Demonstrated leader with strong negotiating and delegation skills

• Ability to think strategically and creatively

• Ability to be politically cognizant and accommodating to key sponsors and partners

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

• Strong work ethic and thrive in a fast-paced environment

• Certified Exhibit Manager (CEM) designation (preferred)

• Willing to travel approximately 25%, working nights and weekends as needed
